There is no problem with the car as such but still no car is perfect so there are limitations to it. It has Softer Suspension so makes noise on breaker, low mileage specially in city, no other fuel options it only comes in petrol. Low safety rating 3 star, although testing done in 2022 in GNCAP. The real world mileage of the i20 in city is between 10-12 kmpl. Some have reported low mileage as well. Actually the city mileage is generally low because the car runs on a stop and go condition. The engine of a car remain stressed in high traffic condition. The car needs highest power at initial pull. So in city generally short trip happens and thus any car for that matter give low fuel economy.

On the highways this car is able to give 19-20kmpl maximum mileage but that was in an ideal condition when there is driving at steady speeds and on low RPMs. Speed kept between 70-80kmpl with using cruise control always. But this will not be the same condition every time. When we try to pull the car between 80-90kmph the mileage drops to 17kmpl. After crossing 100kmph speed the mileage on the highway comes to 15-16kmpl. This is the real world mileage so in all situations the mileage depends on our driving conditions. High revving will decrease the mileage because ECU directs the injectors to inject more fuel in this condition. Slow and steady acceleration will improve the mileage.

What is the weakness of the Hyundai i20?

There are weakness of the i20 as follows

• The height is low only 1505mm so the head room is very less. Specially for 6 feet height person.
• The ground clearance is low 170mm and with the luggage and 5 passengers it reduced to 155mm. So due to this the car touches on the breakers.
• Not for bad roads and for off roading purpose. The under body is vulnerable due to low ground clearance so it is not suitable for off roading.
• High speed stability is not good. When the car crosses 100kmph it looses confidence. The suspension is so soft that they do not give enough stability. The ride becomes bumpy on high speeds. Literally the high speed stability is not good in this car and this is the biggest drawback.
• Low mileage considering it is an hatchback. This is an issue, sometimes the mileage in city drops to 8-9kmpl. Which is very less for a hatchback.
• With full passengers and luggage the car losses its punch it feels laggy in terms of power. We need to hard push the accelerator to fetch power from the engine.
• The safety rating is low and the exterior panel like door panel feels very weak and prone to dents.
