The engine in Bolero Neo is 1.5L 3 cylinder mHawk100 engine which produces 100ps power and generates 260NM torque. The bigger version of this Bolero Neo is Bolero Neo+ which has more powerful mHawk120 2.2L 4 cylinder engine which generates 120PS power and 280NM torque. But we will be taking Bolero Neo in today’s discussion. In mHawk ‘m’ means this engine is a micro hybrid engine has a capability to get start and stop feature in this engine.

The Bolero Neo uses a VGT type of turbo, which has a variable geometry and can better manage the exhaust gases. For bypassing the exhaust gases there are vanes that can be adjusted according to the requirement of the engine and its RPM. An 1.5L engine already available with Mahindra which is used in 3XO is not used for Bolero Neo. Because the engine used in 3XO is a 4 cylinder and Bolero has a 3 cylinder engine which is less costly as compared to 4 cylinder engine. So to keep prices low a 3 cylinder engine is used in Bolero Neo.

Fundamentally diesel engine are heavy and timing chain for them is a preferred choice. The timing chain are more reliable than timing belt but there friction is increased and due to which they can produce high NVH level. This Bolero Neo after 2025 updates got Rideflow technology in which advanced suspension and improved riding quality is introduced. The suspension in these cars comes with MDVCL and FDD technology which enhances comfort, stability and improve control in ride quality in tough terrain.

Mahindra Bolero Neo Platform and Suspension

The platform of any car decides the size, its capability and safety of that car at fundamental level. The platform also decides how that car is going to behave in overall ride quality. The Bolero Neo is a body on frame car. In this technology the body is placed on a frame designed saperately, the mahindra uses its 3rd generation chassis which ultimately decide the overall capability of the car. The rear suspension uses rigid axle MTT technology (multi terrain technology) which increases the capability of these cars to a high extent. This suspension has FDD technology which means there is frequency dependent damping, and MTVCL technology means Multi tunable valve centric land. Both these ultimately provide better cushiony effect, refined brake dynamics, lighter steering, enhance stability and control.

Also there is MLD (mechanical lock differential) technology available in the rear suspension to transfer power from one wheel to another. When a wheel gets free moving in undulation then this technology transfer engine power to opposite wheel. All these technologies make the Bolero Neo more capable. These off roading capabilities makes a car real SUV.

Mahindra Bolero Neo Safety

The safety rating of Bolero neo is not good it achieved only 1 star in GNCAP. So if safety is your concern then do not buy this car. Bolero Neo comes in 5 models ranging from n4,n8,n10,n10(o) and n11 and the safety features include ABS and EBD, reverse parking camera, airbags for driver and co driver, seat belt reminder, corner breaking control (Subset of ESP), USB type c charging, reverse parking sensors. While reverse parking camera, multi terrain technology, cruise control, Steering mounted control and child seat mount are present only in higher models.

Interior is very simple straightforward but with available useful features. AC is manually controlled and do not have much complex electronics.
